The following notes apply to both companies:
Insurance companies can provide their services correctly, speedily and economically only by way of electronic data processing (EDP). The processing of the personal data that have been made known to us is regulated by the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG).
According to this law, the processing and use of data will be admissible, if the BDSG or any other statutory provision permits it or if the person concerned has approved of it. The BDSG will always permit the processing and use of data, if this is required as part of a contractual relationship or a relationship of trust similar to that of a contract with the party concerned, or to safeguard the legitimate interests of the office processing these data, and if there is no reason to assume that the party concerned has an overriding interest warranting an exclusion of these data from being processed or used.
Safety of personal data
A number of technical and organizational measures have been taken to ensure a high level of data protection:
- All EDP systems used by the Versicherungsverbund Die Continentale are protected against unauthorized access by safety systems.
- All employees are bound in writing to keep the data secrecy pursuant to Article § 5 BDSG.
- The data protection officer and the Internal Audit Department examine regularly, whether the data protection regulations are complied with.
Data transfer
The data transfer via the internet is beyond the control of the Versicherungsverbund, so that the unauthorized access of third parties to the data cannot be excluded which a visitor to the Internet portal transmits. In order to minimize this risk, qualified data (forms etc.) will be transmitted in encrypted form, for which the Continentale uses the secure socket layer (SSL) protocol which will ensure 128-bit encryption.
The data thus transmitted will be stored for the purpose of further processing and, if applicable, passed on to the agent in charge.
